Savor the day.  Even at our lowest point, we can find a kernel of wisdom that lifts us up.

Life is full of joyous expression.  Go for a walk and record what you see with writing rather than a camera.  Use descriptions that vividly capture what you experience through your senses.

Be calm.  Writing can help us center ourselves mentally, even in circumstances of great stress.

Hiatus Hiaku

Hello folks, this has been one of the most challenging winters that I have ever experienced.  Of course in the U.P. we do not typically face the harshness of tsunamis, or tornadoes, or hurricanes; but, to anyone dealing dark days hope can wane.  The drive to write and self-publish has been a challenge, too.  So, what do I do to self-motivate and keep that butterfly a flutter in my heart, I participated in the 100 Day Project: https://www.facebook.com/The100dayproject

I wrote color inspired Haiku and used water color paints and pencils to make pictures.  This is what got me through the continued dark days of winter all the way to sunny spring.  The work help awakened a different part of my being having never seriously painted or drawn, I surprised myself.

I am sharing the work here and plan to continue.  Doing something different actually brought me new ideas and revitalized my approach to writing.  So, here is looking forward to the writing to come.

Haiku One

Here is a movie of some of my Haiku.  After much technical challenges, which is another thing I will blog about.  Briefly, though, even if you have to take out a notebook and go "Old School" don't neglect your writing bug.  Feed that little critter daily.

Haiku Two

Before this time, keep in mind that writing Haiku was an experience that I enjoyed only briefly as a child.  As far drawing and painting, I was never formally trained, but I intensely enjoyed the whole experience, which I plan to continue in some fashion.
